Daktronics announced that they have designed, manufactured and installed what they call the largest LED video feature in Europe. An enormous, 1128-square-meter, curved LED display is placed above the entrance to the London Stadium at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.
“Hosting Europe’s largest LED video display is a proud point of difference, and we expect that the sight of the screen will become an iconic element of everyone’s visit to London Stadium and Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park,” - said London Stadium Chief Executive Linda Lennon CBE. “The LED video display will serve to inform and entertain our guests while delivering considerable value to our commercial partners, event owners, and community groups”.
“Our challenge now is to use the screen to its full capability by displaying great content that further enhances the experience of sports fans, concert goers, and corporate guests.”
The impressive, eye-catchy display measures 13.9m high by 81.2m wide to appeal to the viewers attending events or people passing by the stadium. Using the manufacturer’s proprietary 15HD technology, the display is capable of high brightness levels to provide clear, high-contrast image under the direct sunlight, according to a press release.
The curved screen is also slightly tilted toward, which makes traditionally created content appear stretched out and curved, the company said. To help the venue make the best of its unique LED signage Daktronics worked out specific guidelines to produce an impressive content that would fit the natural curve of the display.
“To be back at the Olympic stadium and install another state-of-the-art screen is an absolute honor,” - said Rahman Amin, the company's project manager. “The unique aspects of the digital screen made it fascinating and exciting. Daktronics appointed long-term partner EDS, who was responsible for the fabrication and installation of the strengthening and secondary steel as well as the display itself delivering the highest standard and completing the install on time. The site is magnificent and represents another milestone in the history of digital signage in Europe.”
Changing messages and content on the video surface is done through the company’s Venus Pro control suite that completes the installation, the press release said.
