Barco LED media canvas refined with R7 model

The company announced the expansion of its R-series lineup of flexible outdoor LED displays with the addition of a 7mm pixel pitch model. Referred to as LED digital media canvas, the technology is billed as an alternative to traditional LED displays due to its thin, lightweight and bendable design.

Venue owners, advertisers, and retailers are faced with the ever-challenging task of catching the attention of consumers and visitors. At the same time, they want to reduce installation time and cost. The R-series' unique design not only allows for cost-savings, it also frees designers from the limitations of traditional LED displays – so their message stands out in installations that were unimaginable before,”  – commented Wim Buyens, Senior VP Entertainment at Barco. “With the introduction of our R7 display, we now offer a wider choice in pixel pitches: customers can now choose from a 7 or 10 mm pixel pitch R-series display for their project.

According to Barco, the R-series is 75% lighter than traditional LED displays, which makes it easier and faster to install thus reducing the installation cost. The technology comes in sheets up to 4.68 meters long and features 5mm thick profile, including louvers, with all the cabling, control, and power electronics integrated within. The power supply unit can be located remotely for easy servicing.

The unique bendable design combined with a light weight and minimal need of a supporting structure expands creative possibilities of the R-series installation. This, Barco says, makes the technology applicable to places and surfaces that were impossible before, like curved façades, subway station tunnels or creative stage sets.

The R-series is driven by the company’s Infinipix image processing platform, which Barco says, ensures high-quality low-brightness performance and without image tearing. Its web-based interface enables remote display configuration, control, monitoring, and maintenance from any device. The system supports SNMP to export monitoring data, but sends automatic failure alerts and status notifications as well to minimize operational risk.

The R-series digital media canvas will be on display at the InfoComm trade show in Orlando, from 14–16 June, at Barco booth #3601.
