Matrox Graphics Inc. announced that Kamppi Mall in Helsinki, Finland, had its new LED digital signage powered by Mura MPX Series capture & display cards. The technology was selected by Craneworks integrator company who performed the installation.
The 14.4-meter-high outdoor video solution from digiLED is located outside the shopping mall in one of the central districts of Helsinki. With a total area of 108 square meters the display is three times the size of the original signage it replaced, the company said.
According to the announcement, the controlling workstation is based on HP Z600 system that is powered by a Mura MPX-4/4 video wall controller board. The board features four HD outputs and four HD inputs all on one card. The input channels include two Mac mini media players for redundancy, one local DVI input, and one live feed, Matrox said. Mura also scales and switches between content for different ad campaigns facilitating for Craneworks the screen’s day-to-day operation handling. The remote video wall management is performed by Matrox MuraControl software for Windows.
“We needed to have a scaler that was able to crop portrait video and partially split it to two different outputs,”- said Jukka Vuoristo, a project manager in Craneworks. “This was crucial, as we needed to handle PC and video signals through one device.” Vuoristo also mentioned the Mura’s easy and straight-forward setup, a wide selection of inputs and outputs, and its scalable architecture.
“We have a lot of special campaigns at Kamppi, and we often get different kinds of live video feeds that we have to scale and place on the screen with different background materials,”- said Craneworks managing director Sami Käyhkö. “With Matrox Mura, we can take advantage of scaling and input switching. We get the freedom we need from a programming standpoint.”
